Virtual Assistant Support for Therapists, Counsellors and Psychologists in the UK

At Business Support Team, we provide specialist virtual assistant services for therapists, counsellors and psychologists across the UK.
Our co-founder and Business Support Assistant, Ashleigh, has extensive experience supporting individuals and organisations within the UK counselling and psychotherapeutic sector. She also has experience working alongside neurodivergent business owners, offering support that is flexible, understanding, and tailored to individual needs.
As a qualified counsellor and UK-based virtual assistant, Ashleigh is uniquely placed to support private practice therapists and psychologists who want reliable, ethical, and informed administrative support.

A Virtual Assistant Who Understands Therapy Practice

Running a therapy practice in the UK comes with specific responsibilities — ethical practice, GDPR compliance, safeguarding, and clear professional boundaries.
Ashleigh’s background in mental health means she already understands:
-
The realities of client work
-
The sensitivity of enquiries and communications
-
The importance of confidentiality and data protection
-
The pressures of balancing clinical and administrative responsibilities
Because of this, you don’t need to spend time explaining how therapy work operates. Support is delivered in a way that fits naturally within your practice, respecting both you and your clients.
By taking care of admin, systems, and organisation, Ashleigh helps UK therapists focus more fully on seeing clients and delivering high-quality care.

About Ashleigh

Ashleigh is a calm, thoughtful, and highly organised person who genuinely enjoys helping others feel more supported in their work. She has a natural ability to notice what needs attention, bring order to busy systems, and quietly take pressure off the people she works with.
She builds strong, trusting relationships through clear communication, consistency, and care.
Clients often value her proactive approach — knowing that things are being taken care of without needing to chase or explain. Ashleigh works alongside her clients in a way that feels steady and reliable, helping their businesses run more smoothly day to day.

Ashleigh supports counsellors, psychotherapists, psychologists, and coaches who run their own private practices, as well as counselling organisations across both the private and third sectors. Her support is flexible and tailored, and can include managing client enquiries, booking and coordinating appointments, diary and inbox management, updating websites, professional directories, and social media, carrying out research, recording expenses, weekly or monthly invoicing, reconciling accounts, chasing payments, data entry, room bookings, and preparing or editing reports.

Before setting up Business Support Team, Ashleigh spent over 21 years working in a variety of roles across different sectors. This includes time working with COSCA (Counselling & Psychotherapy in Scotland), Scotland’s professional body for counselling and psychotherapy, as well as roles in sales, retail, the motor trade, and a solicitor’s office. These experiences have given her a strong understanding of how organisations work and what helps them function well.

Alongside her business support work, Ashleigh is a qualified Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and Couples Counsellor and continues to run her own private practice on a part-time basis. This means she understands first-hand the realities of holding clinical work alongside the practical demands of running a practice — and brings empathy, insight, and care into the support she offers.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

Clinical Psychologist
I was feeling overwhelmed by the constant flow of admin tasks, replying to emails, raising invoices, chasing payments. This was pulling me away from clinical work. Hiring Ashleigh was the best decision I made for my practice.

Clinical Psychologist
Ashleigh manages scheduling, client follow-ups, documentation, and general admin with care and confidentiality. As she is also a therapist she has strong understanding of the sensitivity required in a mental health setting, and always communicates with empathy and discretion.

Psychotherapist
As a therapist with ADHD, running a private practice can feel like juggling ten things while trying to remember where I put the eleventh. While I’m confident in my clinical work, the admin side of things — scheduling, follow-ups, documentation, invoices — was a constant source of stress, executive dysfunction, and missed details. Hiring Ashleigh has been an absolute game-changer.

Individual & Couple Counsellor
A Psychologist friend of mine recommended Ashleigh to me. She is organised, reliable and professional and has helped me to grow my practice and take on new associates.
